Installing Tarball

From AMSN
Jump to: navigation, search

This is only needed when a binary package is not available, or doesn't support the system you use. All binary packages at the download page are also created from the source package.

First, we need to unpack the tarball. We can either use the command line or a special software to do that.

As we'll need to use the command line, the following command will do it:

tar -xvjf amsn-<version>.tar.bz2

The installation now consists of three commands:

./configure
make
su -c 'make install'

The first step verifies your system. It stops if a required package cannot be found. The second step builds the application. This step could take 2-10 minutes, depending on your system. The final third step installs the actual files. Before the installation starts the system asks for your root password.
