Hi all,

The other day I inadvertently double-clicked on the aMSN icon whilst aMSN was already opened and signed in and it started a second instance of aMSN, which I didn't know was possible.  This got me thinking about using aMSN with my other account too at the same time instead of running aMSN with my main acount and emesene with my other 'secondary' account (long story).  I just wanted to really quickly ask if anyone else already does this and if they could reply with their experiences of doing this and if anyone has ever had any problems with doing this.  Also would appreciate it if anyone 'in the know' could reply with details of any known issues doing something like this. regardless of if they do or have done this themselves / experiences the problem directly.

Many thanks in advance for all replies to this quick enquiry.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hi,
Since the very first version, aMSN has been built to allow this, this is something that works, that is tested and used by many, and there's  a whole system behind it to make it work properly...
for example, try selecting your first account in the username combobox, it will detect and tell you that it's being used by another amsn instance.

In short, yes, you can do it and it will just work.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Not long after your reply I made the switch and am now using aMSN with both accounts and all seems fine.  There is a slightly annoying thing where if both contacts are on the same account then you get two sign-in windows appearing at the same time (often one on-top of the other) but the benefits of using such a decent unofficial messenger client outweigh this problem!  I do wonder if a future version of aMSN could have an option to choose where the 'alert window' appears?

Still, I'm glad I made the switch, a few 'features' of emesene were starting to annoy me back when I was using it.

Cheers.

Hi, you can already do that! Just go to aMSN -> Account -> Settings -> Advanced.
There you should see a text saying "Move the notification window by X and Y. Play with those values Wink

Thanks for your quick reply.  I have set X to 782 & left Y as 28 and it fits perfectly in the bottom-left corner.  Perhaps a silly question but I assume those settings stick with that account when logging in via aMSN?

Is there any particular reason that the settings for the notification pop-up are settable via X and Y settings and not a simple "Top Left", "Top Right", "Bottom left", "Bottom Right" perhaps drop-down box or radio button selection?

Yeah, those settings are per account.
About the X and Y, this is more customizable.
Imagine that you want to show the notification in the middle top side of your screen.
