I downloaded the latest version of amsn, replacing the old one and it won't open at all, the program will not open, it shows up in my dock for one second then disappears, the program closes by itself. i deleted it and redownloaded, same thing, same with leaving it and replacing it. how can i fix this?

I concur. Mine is broken now too. Can someone sort this please?
As an aside... when this sort of thing happens (and it always does with amsn), can you please allow us to download the previous version from the downloads page so that we are not left with having to find alternatives to our messenger service.
Running on Intel iMac, 10.4.11.

Hello, I'm new here. Just to add I have the same issue, and same configuration (Mac OS X 10.4.11). Trying to remove "amsn" folder in "Application Support" folder and the amsn file in "Preferences" folder before reinstalling don't do anything better. I find the previous version here : http://www.softonic.fr/s/amsn-0.98.3:macAfter reinstaling this previous version (and replacing the old folders removed), all works as well as before. PS : sorry about my bad english, I'm french

I don't know why this happens, i'll have to take a look, if you can give me any kind of additional information, that would be very helpful. Maybe try opening the file manually from a terminal would help (open terminal and type "/Applications/aMSN.app/Contents/Resources/MacOSX/aMSN" ) And by the way, all versions are always available from the sourceforge website : http://sourceforge.net/projects/amsn/files/amsn/p.s: I have 10.6 so I can't really test for older versions of macosx. Isn't 10.4 not even supported anymore by apple ? I thought all mac users upgraded already :p

/Applications/aMSN.app/Contents/Resources/MacOSX/aMSN -> "No such file or directory"
There is also /Applications/aMSN.app/Contents/MacOS/aMSN -> "Bus error" /Applications/aMSN.app/Contents/Resources/aMSN.rsrc ->"cannot execute binary file"

Ok thanks, yeah, I was talking about /Applications/aMSN.app/Contents/MacOS/aMSN When you say "Bus error" is that all is shown? or do you get a lot more text? can you paste the whole thing please ? Anyways, I'm going to repackage aMSN 0.98.4 into a new binary using tcl/tk 8.5.3 (instead of 8.5.9 which seems to cause some issues to people). Hopefully I'll do it today, I'll let you know when to redownload and try it.

This will be the only time I'll ever be on the forums (unless a new mac error has occured). Downloaded the update, aMSN does not open up at all. It comes up for a quick sec, then fades. I get the same thing as the user above, "bus error", etc. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

Same happens for me - in fact it didn't look as though anything happened at all. I'm on OS 10.4.11 on a PowerPC.
We're all indebted to the development team as aMSN is a great application and i'm sure getting developers & testers is not always straightforward - but would it be possible to arrange for selected friendly faces off here to check it out before release on PPC & Intel platforms with a selection of OS versions (at least to verify it isn't DOA)
Thanks guys!

My apologies for opening a new thread when there was one already opened. I am not alone I see in failing to open aMSN v 0.98.4 in OS Tiger 10.4.11. I have overwritten my previous version (0.98.3. something) but have been unable to find this on the 2 sites quoted above. Can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem with 10.6.5. At first it worked fine, but then got the error reporting box and the whole program froze, couldn't send the report. After a force quit AMSN wouldn't open at all. Console showed it exiting with code 1 but I couldn't find a crash log to post here. I had to download the older version from the first link, as the scourgeforce link isn't working.

Hey, sorry, I kind of forgot to check back the forums... I've uploaded a new build of 0.98.4 for Mac 2 days ago, could you redownload and see if it works better now ? Thanks
