Hi, welcome to the forums
what language are you trying to install ?  In theory, aMSN comes with all available languages pre-installed..
it's possible that you're trying to install the languages to /usr/share/amsn/lang/ which is probably not writable for the user, you may have to run amsn with 'sudo', download the language, then close aMSN and relaunch it as your normal user.

it's because on windows vista there is no protection and you can write the downloaded file wherever you want, on linux, there is more security that prevents you from writing files to the system without gaining root access. Like I explained, it's very simple, just do this :
1 - open a Terminal
2 - type 'sudo amsn'
3 - enter your password
4 - open will open, download the language
5 - close amsn and the terminal
6 - run amsn normally, the language should be available to you now.

euhh... ok? don't know what happened, maybe you quit amsn the wrong way and the file got corrupted.. as far as I know, it's just a warning and you start off with a new config, but aMSN should still work.
