I'm upgrading my Linux, but since I haven't upgraded in a long time, my dad's having to do some stuff to make it work right... however, he says there's a high risk of some of my computer files, possibly all of them, being wiped. I want to keep the logs of my previous conversations on aMSN, and my previous webcam sessions, but I can't find them

I looked at the FAQs, and it says to go to .aMSN/your_email_address/logs except there is no such place

I know that it is logging my conversations and webcam sessions, as I can view them through aMSN, but I can't find them on my computer in order to back them up, in preparation for the upgrade

Help?

This is what the FAQ says...

Q: I enabled the logging of conversations on aMSN, but I cannot find the logfiles. Where are they stored?
A: In order for logging to be enabled, you must first create a profile. This can be done at the aMSN login-screen.

create a new profile: "my_email@msn.com"

You will then find the log here here:

    * Linux: ~/.amsn/my_email_msn_com/logs

Hi, welcome to the forums,
Just copy over the whole ~/.amsn directory... in your first post, you made the mistake of puttin ".aMSN" and not ".amsn", don't forget on linux, files and folders are case sensitive!
Also note the leading dot in the name of the directory, that means that the directory is a hidden directory, so make sure you either type the whole path or that you enable "show hidden files" options (if it exists) in whatever file manager you are using.
Also, the "~/" symbol means your home directory...  so assuming your username on your computer is 'abibubble' it would mean that the directory you need is : /home/abibubble/.amsn
copy the whole directory over to some USB stick and that should do it. This way you'll keep all logs, as well as settings, display pictures, custom smileys, etc... not just the logs.
