is there any way that other people can see you have a webcam and turn it on from their computer?? i am a bit sick of having to invite people to view my webcam, mainly because they cant see the icon like in normal windows messenger underneath (or it could be to the side) of the display picture.

Hi, welcome to the forums!
Command-, (or menu aMSN->preferences, then go to the 'others' tab then audio/video assistant). Then you can enable that checkbox in the last finish page of the assistant!
If it's greyed out and unclickable, then you should upgrade to SVN : http://amsn-project.net/wiki/SVN

My webcam worked just fine with aMSN last week and now, for seemingly no reason it doen't want to connect.

Having read this thread and also this one: http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6682

I am sure that installing SVN will sort my problem but I seem to be unable to find exactly what it is I need to download and then install. I feel like an utter noob but I would greatly appreciate someone's help and step-by-step instructions on where I can get SVN and how I can go about installing it. Thanks in advance.

I have read that page from when you linked it in a previous thread and it really hasn't helped. The application file it tells you to download is a zip file that won't unzip and the link to the The development archive way is broken. I have also read the following thread: http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6797&start=0

Clearly you're very helpful and I do appreciate your response to me here but fundamentally now, my problem seems to be that this file: http://homepage.mac.com/martinott/Subversion-1.5.5.pkg.zip Will not unzip. Is there somewhere else I can get it or perhaps I am doing something wrong in trying to unzip it, previously I have no had issues unzipping files using Stuffit expander though.

:Edit: I used another program to unzip the file so I will let you know how it goes. Thanks.

jharman: you don't need to unzip it yourself, if you use safari, you just click on the link, it will download it, unzip it and start installing it for you...

I managed to upzip it and install it. Then I followed the tutorial here: http://www.rubyrobot.org/tutorial/subversion-with-mac-os-x but I must be a moron because I failed with that too. When I saved the text file it became invisible and I couldn't put it into Terminal.

I then used Safari as you suggested and started over again. This time I was unable to open aMSN I got a white screen. Honestly the whole thing seems way above my head. I'm unsure why it would all work fine last week and now, this week an average Joe user who knows nothing of code and little more then pretty looking UI's has to installed some kind of open source program in order to get a webcam to work. It's mental. I had hoped that a simple re-install would fix it but that hasn't helped.

Hi, it's funny how you say "has to install some kind of open source program" well, let me remind you that aMSN IS an open source program and that's why you're even able to do what you do with it Smiley
Anyways, there really a lot of people who use aMSN SVN and who are really complete newbies (average  and under-average Joes) and they never had any problems with getting SVN installed.. however I think that maybe it's because the average Joe uses the development archive way instead of the SVN method.. unfortunately, when you looked, that method was not available in the wiki because it linked to the old mac forums which are now deprecated and unused and the thread disappeared..
Thankfully, TomH. had a copy of these instructions and I've updated the wiki with the instructions.. so go back to http://amsn-project.net/wiki/Installing_SVN#The_development_archive_way and have a look at the development archive way, follow the instructions in the screenshots and you should get aMSN SVN working without any troubles!
Hope it helps!
