This was working some months ago, but I had not tried since then until today.

Well, this is the behavior:

User1 has no webcam.
User2 has a webcam that works with amsn. The assistant works OK, and it used to work in conversations before.

Both users have latest svn versions of amsn in ubuntu 8.10.

This is what happens:

User2 presses "Send Webcam".
User1 accepts.
The webcam connection is established, the webcam window opens up on both users.
BUT: Just one frame arrives to User1. The connection is canceled immediately for some reason! Both users see the message "The webcam session with /other_user_name/ has been canceled".

Strange stuff!

Hi,
some people are reporting this problem and others are getting the 'white screen bug' that plagued the mac version for so long (but is now fixed, and shouldn't happen on any platform).
If you can always reproduce it with someone, could you please try to see which SVN revision added the bug? you probably already know how to do a binary search with svn to find the problematic revision (if not, search the forum). You should maybe start with  revision 10326 which is dated 6 months ago (when 0.97.2 was released)
Find the faulty commit and i'll try to fix it.
thx

Hi and sorry for the delay.

I've found the time to look into the issue, and the problem started at r10915.

But after 2 hours of messing around with the revisions, I've just found out that the latest revision works, it must have been fixed.. Argh.. I should have checkout the latest rev before starting to dig into the problem!

It was a typo from vivia that had been reverted at 10925.. anyway, never mind !)

euhh... really? :| because actually, the problem is when you are both firewalled and you use the reflector (third party server to act as a relay), then it will fail with the white screen bug or get canceled because the microsoft relay servers do not work anymore...

Hey,

Im also having the same problem as the OP, but if the first frame does load here it does it very fast (and I dont notice it).  I can send and receive webcam to some contacts, but not to others, and most if not all of my contacts use MSN Live.

I was wondering kakaroto if you know of a way around this, or if a fix is in sight (because you sound like you know whats going on! Shocked) ), or if you could just give some more information on why using the microsoft relay servers would cause this problem.  Its a real headache!

Im using amsn 0.98b, SVN 11449.

Thanks!

Hi IraGainesUK,
The problem is described here : http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6412
basically, WLM has a bug, and we can do nothing against it... I suppose that if it works with some contacts, these contacts aren't firewalled.. and with those that it doesn't work with, they are firewalled.. and obviously, you are also firewalled yourself... (firewalled here means behind a NAT or behind a real firewall). So I suggest you just go forward your ports in your router in order to have amsn work correctly, in the preferences->connection tab, there's a button to test whether or not a direct connection will be possible... try that!
