To sum things up for everyone else:

trv said: If you had searched the forum, you'd have seen that this was due to microsoft's upgrade in their servers, which ended up affecting all aMSN users. Now, it's only your fault if you thought it was a keylogger and reinstalled everything.

Johnsonbgr said: I was completely panicked because I'd end up losing all my contacts, I really thought that was a keylogger because hotmail told me I was using the wrong credentials even after I changed my password. Anyway, using latest svn now, runs fine. I mostly came here and wrote while I was angry, people must have taken me for a complete idiot but nvm.

chgentso said: You're way too stupid there, I wonder how you even managed to register to this forum. What you said was too stupid even for a person writing in anger.

Johnsonbgr said: Just try to imagine what it would feel like to be about to lose all your contacts - work, girlfriend, friends, family - because everything depends on one single email address... I felt very panicked...

----------

Now, my answer to Johnsonbgr - in english, in order to make it understandable to the general public here Smiley

First, if you only receive a suspicious file and do not execute it, you are safe. aMSN cannot automatically execute the contents of what it is receiving.

Second, if you receive a file and THEN execute it, and it turns out to be a virus, it's not AT ALL aMSN's fault. It's your fault for running things without being sure what they are. Blaming aMSN for a virus you were sent through it is like blaming the post service for a mistakenly overloaded credit card bill. aMSN was merely used to transfer the file, nothing more.

Third, the MSN servers are very well known for their temporary failures, which happen quite too often. You may receive "Invalid username/password" messages again, without you having changed anything. Don't panic, just retry later, the servers are going crazy again. Yes, the "MSN Service status page" will still think that all their systems are stable... If you're feeling unsure, drop by irc.freenode.net #amsn and ask whether anyone else has trouble connecting.

Fourth, don't click on links or open files without asking what they are first. Lately, there are a lot of viruses that spread as a link that appears to come from your contacts. You may catch a virus by just clicking on them. So, if you receive anything, just ask your friend "what did you just send me now?". Also, it's important to NOT let Windows Live Messenger remember your password. Such viruses are able to retrieve your password and then log on using your account in order to send their advertisements to your contacts. This is likely to happen even if you are using aMSN, though I haven't actually confirmed it.

Ok i don't have time to answer about chair problems etc but please i work with computers for years now and im working with hardware and overclocking every day so please stop that "you don't have an idea about computers" it's like insult for me ok?

About the bugs... oh ok the bugs... i have report bugs via that bug report window on aMSN,now if you wondering what bugs i have seen so get your answer: i will say about yestarday,i have receive a nudge i have answer and i have minimize the window and then i open the aMSN window and it stuck, after 3 sec a bug report window come up and then a windows message saying "wish.exe no responding".

I don't except any answer no and maybe it's not aMSN problem.

Look im not stupid i just have a bad experience.

Sorry if i was a little bad with developers,i don't have any problems with developers.

See ya,i will waiting aMSN 2. Cheesy

Funny... pretending to know about computers, and reinstalling Vista, overclocking... Playing with a sword does not make you a knight...

The most commont way that those suspicious messages are created, and people see their friends messaging them an odd link and then going offline, is because they allowed this to happen, by giving their password to suspicious sites.
No, they don't have any virus probably. People do it at their will.
They used on of those so-called 'antiblocking' sites, or 'see who blocked you on msn' or 'see who deleted you on msn' or even strange 'online msn clients'. So you give your password there, you give your username, and you use their services. But those sites keep logs of the usernames/passwords, and sell them to spam companies, that use them to log in your account, send messages to your friends, read your emails and target you in spam campains and other pretty stuff...

If you really want to use those crappy web services, first change your msn password, use them, and then change it back!

Vivia first of all thanks for your reply!  Smiley

I know about the Virus-Advertisements Links and i have receive a lot of them and i just don't click because i know. Cheesy

If anything like this happends again i will "play" smart and i will not panic before i be sure if anything is ok about msn network and my client.

@Rom1_se did you have ever hear about remote hidden keyloggers? Antivirus can't track them so if you want fast solution... format...

@Cypher read up there^^

@trv    you can't see now who have blocked you but most people doesn't believe this and give their password to that crappy sites.  :?

Except antiblocking sites you can find and some "msn display pictures" sites who they ask you to log in with your msn id to take display pictures... another trap there. Shocked

Anyways, thanks guys, this topic is useless now. Smiley

Thanks for the entertaining thread guys - especially the stuff in Greek. Very grateful for the translation hehe.

Sometimes a good explanation with the right amount of flaming (but not excessive) can go a long way towards opening up someones eyes.

I trust that the OP now has a clearer picture of what may have happened and how going off half-arsed without all of the facts made him look a little silly hehe.

Certainly no hard feelings on my part as a fellow aMSN user - we all have moments of stupidity and go off half cocked especially when the situation is potentially dire, however I'm sure a general apology to the devs wouldn't go astray either hehe.  Hopefully you continue to use aMSN as your primary MSN client. Personally I love the program and can't stand WLM. I just wish that the development pace and release cycles were more rapid, but as its a community project sometimes this can't always be the case (wish I could program better hehe).

Oh, and for everyones information - recovering a hotmail account is VERY simple albeit it does take a few days.

My ex girlfriend forgot her password (after months of inactivity) - account restored in 48 hours.
My bro got hacked (moron hehe)  - account restored in 48 hours.

Once you follow the help process to raise an incident with Microsoft, they send you a link to a form. They ask for your IP and ISP as well as some general questions about your account. Unless you have serious memory problems or can't follow instructions, the validation process is simple.

Well today at about 14:00 (greece time +2 GMT) i have disconnected and then yeah you'r right "Wrong username or password".

I try from windows live messenger and then the same thing happend.

No hotmail access,no accountservices access, nothing!

I have try to connect to my 2th msn and all ok.

Anyways after a few hours now i can login at my msn and i believe this is clearly msn server problem or someone fool playing with my password.

Ok i have contact list backup with all my contacts,i can speak at hi5 with many of my contacts, and i believe all the contacts will add me from another msn id.

I have nothing to lose now if my msn got hacked or something.

Thanks a million vivia for the help at irc. Smiley
