I just installed aMSN 0.97.2
It says I have 2 unread messages. so I click on the mail icon. Oh what do you know? "The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please retype the e-mail address and password, or sign up if you haven't already done so."

It's been doing this for god knows how long. Does anyone know why? Thanks.

can someone please try with something other than firefox 3? a lot of people are talking about this problem but they ll reported using firefox 3.. it could very well be a bug in FF3 itself... (or an extension being loaded that messes with the authentication...)

Works with Firefox 3, Opera 9.27 and IE7 perfectly, so it's not a Firefox -specific bug.

EDIT: Using @hotmail.com -address. Firefox has some optional extensions installed whereas Opera and IE do not. All the browsers are capable of signing into Hotmail without problems.

works with or doesn't work with ?
I know some people were having problems because they had the "nojs" extension loaded or something, I'm not sure if it's the same problem here though... So, it might be working for you with FF3, but not working for someone else with FF3 because he has some extension loaded... or it could be an issue with their own account (@hotmail.com works, @msn.com doesn't.. for example!)

mine is an @hotmail account... it actually was doing this with 0.97.1 as well so I upgraded to 0.97.2 thinking that would fix it but it didn't so it could be a firefox thing...

This problem is NOT 0.97.2 specific. I also experienced it with 0.97.1 the last few weeks or so.

Works there with FF3/Linux and @hotmail account
Please specify your account suffix when reporting because it seems to be the cause

Having the problem with @hotmail.com and MacOS X 10.4.11 / Safari 3.1.2.
So domain suffix is probably not the cause

Btw.: not sure when the problem first appeared. but certainly not before updating from 0.97 to 0.97.1 (and it still happens now with 0.97.2). So, either a bug appeared in 0.97.1, or something else made it stop working while I was using 0.97.1.

Here I am again... I just had a sudden idea: try a different account! So i just logged into my girlfiend's account (also @hotmail.com), clicked the inbox link... and it logged in to hotmail without any problem! Then I logged out from hotmail and aMSN, logged in to my own account, clicked the inbox link, and the problem appeared again!

So it is something related to the account...

My next guess: just go to www.hotmail.com!
And yeah... I get a login screen with the e-mail of my girlfriend already filled in...

So, anyone experiencing this problem, please try to find out if:
- When going to www.hotmail.com, the login screen already contains an e-mail address.
- If it does, try if logging in to hotmail through aMSN works for that account but not from another account.

This is the weirdest bullshit I've ever seen. I hate computers.
It's not the suffix. It's some other b.s.

So, I created a new hotmail account. Logged in to aMSN with it, clicked on the mail link and it worked!
I have no idea what could cause this now... seems like it affects accounts that have been around for a while I guess?
