I have been, taking a look in the forum and many people seem to have the same problem as me , (web cam image size).
amsn's webcam software catches jusk like a quarter of the image. I suggest that in the webcam configuration window  there must be options to addjust the size (ex: 300x240 and other ones like this).

I and many other clients would aprreciate if  an update is made to amsn (0.97 & 0.97b) to fix the problem.
Thank you

Hi, thanks for searching but please post in one of the existing threads. The answer to the question is already in those threads. IIRC it's a driver issue not aMSN and there is only 1 resolution aMSN supports because that is what the codec supports (defined by MSN, and RE'd by aMSM, if I have interpreted the for forum posts correctly).

hmmm, so MSN has a contract with AMSN about the webcam image size ??
( i think i don't understand so clearly) what is a codec?

but i think it is pissible to do so because in the FAQ its says that amsn will try to fix this, but correct me if im wrong

thank you

It's nto a contract, but MSN defines every parameter when it comes to MSN/WLM, this includes their proprietary codec for the webcam. Any third party IM application has to conform to what MS has defined since it has to fool the server into thinking it is a real MS program. I'm not sure how to define a codec, basically a codec is how the video is encoded and decoded (someone correct me if this is not entirely accurate)

I am not sure what the FAQ says regarding this, but it has been discussed many times as you saw, and it is a driver issue. I think there is a possibility to use a higher resolution using MSNP15 (the latest version of the MSN protocol), but that requires a different codec or something, if I interpreted info correctly. The new protocol is being worked on for aMSN but is far from complete and is experimental but I do not believe any work has been done for the new codec. Even if the new protocol was usable and the new codec was implemented this issue still may not be solved.

I don't see where it says in the FAQ that we'll fix this. We *CANNOT* fix it. a codec means 'COer/DECoder' so yes that's how you encode and decode the raw image into something smaller for sending through the network. There are many codecs (mpeg4, divx, h263, h264, etc..) and the one used by MSN is 'mimic' (fcc ML20) which is a proprietary codec created by microsoft and that codec will only encode an image if its size is 320x240 or 160x120, so there is no way you can have it work on a higher resolution.

The video conference can work on MSNP12 or MSNP15, it's the same, but it's also 320x240!!! yeah, stupid M$.. and yes, it uses a different codec (WMV3).
