kenzo@ramadhian:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/aliases | grep snd ## alias sound-slot-1 snd-usb-audio alias sound-card-1 snd-usb-audio options snd-usb-audio index=1
Now I already set for ALSA Only

Well, we got it. For ubuntu / Debian guys out there ... the module is called snd_usb_audio on such distros instead of usb-snd-audio on Fedora. sudo modprobe snd_usb_audio

Thanks for this howto, I got the snack library to work on Ubuntu Gutsy with this. Just for reference I didn't have to alter the modprobe.conf file (which is good news as there isn't one in Gutsy!) but after compiling I had to copy the libsnack library across from /lib/ to /usr/lib/ sudo cp /lib/libsnackstub2.2.a /usr/lib/ sudo cp -R /lib/snack2.2 /usr/lib/
- I guess i should have compiled with the switch --prefix=/usr? I'm using the Logitech Quickcam Zoom for reference, thanks again!

YATTA! I got sound working! Thanks a lot overflow1990 and aMSN developers as well  (BTW this forum should have more smilies) Debian "how-to" for amd64 (should be the same for x86) tar -xzf snack2.2.10.tar.gz cd snack2.2.10/unix/ ./configure --prefix=/usr/lib --with-tk=/usr/lib/tk8.4 --with-tcl=/usr/lib/tcl8.4 --enable-alsa very important!!! edit Makefile to "DESTDIR=/usr", otherwise it will install to /lib and aMSN will complain of not finding snack make && make install # DON'T install snack from aptitude (it doesn't work because it wasn't built with --enable-alsa) On aMSN the audio output device should be something like "plughw:0" and mixer "hw:0". The input device should be "plughw:2". *rant* why wasn't the Debian package built with --enable-alsa ?! Now I know that my Logitech Quickcam Fusion sound works fine (well, at least it seems so). I am just missing a program to record video+audio since aMSN doesn't seem to support this.

humm... yeah, enabling alsa *would* fix it.. otherwise, you still have my patch that fixes the bug from libsnack (the author of libsnack never answered, seems he doesn't care about my patch ) enabling alsa could make it work for you, but not everyone, a lot of people have problems with snack + alsa, others have snack working only with alsa.. depends on the system... alsa support being experimental might be the reason debian package didn't have the --enable-alsa

i am using openSuSE 11 i tried everything listed in this topic and other ideas searching the internet but couldnot get my webcam microphone working. i had the snack rpm installed from the opensuse oss repo. but it only showed /dev/dsp1 /dev/dsp2 /dev/audio1 /dev/audio2
in the list for the microphone. The usb mic works great for other programs like audacity and it is also shown under my mixer window.
I removed snack, deleted the /usr/lib/snack2.2.10/ directory, and again made a clean installation from the source using -enable-alsa -with-tk=/usr/lib/ -with-tcl=/usr/lib/ (compiled and installed without any error). i added those alias sound-slot-1 snd-usb-audio alias sound-card-1 snd-usb-audio options snd-usb-audio index=1
lines in my /etc/modprobe.conf file. and tried being root to rmmod and modprobe the snd-usb-audio ( it gave me no errors while doing modprobe). now when i restart amsn and tried to configure the devices, it shows only webcam, but says "checking if snack is loaded.." and does nothing. it even does not show the oss devices. I tried creating symbolic link of /usr/lib/snack2.2.10/ in ~/.amsn/plugins but still no success.
anyone out there who can help me. ( BTW i tried these whole process with the same results before in suse10.3 also but i had no time to try it once more.. but now i want to fix it if i get any help. :x )
