Hello,

Since a few weeks, aMSN doesn't want to connect anymore, and I can't find a solution on the Internet. It was working very well, and one morning, without any change in my config, it happened to be broken. Please, help!!

I'm using Edgy Eft. I'm behind a proxy, LAN connected on the Residence Network in a University. The version of aMSN I use is 0.97b, but I tried with 0.95 (stable version packaged in Ubuntu) and 0.96 latest stable version, the problem was the same.
I think the proxy is well configured, at least I don't see how to configure it better...

Here is the relevant section of the Status Log, I'm unable to decode it:

Quote

[13:29:51] gotNexusReply: loginurl=https://login.live.com/login2.srf

Any help would be greatly welcome!

Hervé

Hi,
I just tried and it seems like everything in your log is 'normal', you should probably post what it shows after that, and what error message it gives you.

As you can see, I don't get any error message (except "Connection Error..."), aMSN just keeps trying to connect every 5 or 10s. The part of the status log at [21:33:49] is when I click "Cancel".

Now the "MSN Protocol Debug":

oh.. so it works.. it's just about the authentication then! are you using a socks proxy or http proxy ? is it the 'http gateway' or your own http proxy (with you entering the server's hostname and all)
you say you use svn, could you try updating to the latest SVN version and see if anything got fixed ?

oh and btw.. when you post that information, please remove the Proxy-Authorization line from the status log because it contains your password in a very very easy way to decrypt!

I'm using http proxy. I'm not sure to understand well the second question (either because I don't have the technical knowledge or because as a French guy I may miss some meaning), but in the Preferences, I check "I connect via a proxy : HTTP (POST Method)" and then give server, port, username and password.
I use an SVN version, but that's not an SVN source I compile myself; I get it from this repository:
      deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/3v1deb edgy 3v1n0
this version is curently 0.97-0+svn20070218.
I don't fear compile it myself, but since there is a download restrictions in my network, if there is another solution, I prefer this one.
However it's late now, if you think I have no other choice, I will try to compile the latest svn tomorrow.

I didn't notice that... Thanks![/quote]

ok, btw, if you think it's easier for you in french, just speak french, je suis francophone aussi...
about svn, I'm not sure if it's worth it to try the latest version, but it may be a good thing to do, http://amsn-project.net/wiki/SVN for instructions on how to do it.
about second question, you answered it, so it's ok.
do you know if something changed with the proxy itself ? does other apps work ? even for https connections ? your proxy seems to work but it fails on https secured connections only... I don't know why it would happen...

So I updated to latest SVN version. Nothing changed in the (non) connection behavior.
I don't know if anything changed with the proxy. Other apps work, I can even connect to the MSN network via Gaim (I should maybe have told that before), but I prefer aMSN...
I have no problem to access https web pages with Firefox, but when I wanted to get the latest svn version of aMSN, using the subversion way,  it didn't work (so I got the development archive). Here is the error message:

Code:

ok.. if gaim and https with firefox work, then the proxy should be ok.. maybe the proxy still works but they just changed somehow their rules that made a non apparent bug in amsn appear right now..
if you wait until the week end (write something in this thread on saturday morning so I see it as 'new' and don't forget to help you), send me your email address via PM, I'll add you to msn, connect via gaim, and we'll fix this together, I'll need to add more output in the code, to be able to track down the exact problem, so I'll need your help, and I'll need a lot of testing and a lot of additions of status log output, because right now, the status log is not detailed enough.
thx and hopefully.. see you on saturday!

Good morning!

I'm having problems connecting also.  I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.  This connection problem just started today.  I do not have a proxy set up and I am able to connect to MSN messenger service just fine with GAIM. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Cannot connect to MSN from any non ms based client at present. AMSN, gaim and kopete all refuse to connect but msn messenger connects straight away. Would seem m$ have changed their authentication again.
