Webcam und aMSN

Hallo

Meine Tochter moechte nun auch noch eine eigene Webcam kaufen(!) und installieren und mit aMSN benutzen. Da ich selber keine Ahnung habe von dieser Materie und mich auch nicht sonderlich interessiere dafuer, hier ein paar Fragen:

a) geht das grundsaetzlich?
b) wenn ja: welche Produkte eignen sich dafuer und sind problemlos zu installieren?

Details:
- SuSE Linux 8.2 bzw. 10.0
- Internet-Zugang fuer alle ausschliesslich ueber Proxy (Squid, mein eigener Communications-Server) ohne Authentification
- aMSN 0.96b (22/12/2005) --< stimmt das? Ist die gepatchte Version wegen des Authentifizierungs-Bugs

Bisher probiert:
Ein Versuch, die vorhandene Kamera eines anderen anzusehen, friert nach einiger Zeit mein aMSN-Fenster ein und ich muss es in einem anderen Fenster KILLen. Ein Log-Mitschnitt zeigt zB Folgendes. Fuer mich sieht es so aus, als wollte aMSN oder die Gegenstelle ueber Port 80 connecten und nicht ueber den Proxy.

Sorry, I will answer in English because it's A LOT easier for me

With latest CVS version, webcam should work OK. There is just a slight problem with the version you have: "Pause Webcam" won't work, and sometimes MSN 7.5 might crash due to bad headers sent by aMSN. This is almost fixed in today's CVS, tomorrow it should work OK if we have enough time for testing.

About webcam: I have a Creative Webcam Plus, it works with the ov511 module and it's always worked perfectly without complaining. Just that the image might appear a bit orange or pink when there is not enough light, but from what I've seen from other users' experience, this is really just a minor issue.

I saw your status log, thanx for reporting this issue. I don't understand why it freezes. If connection to the other side fails, it should really try using the reflector instead of freezing. Try again tomorrow with latest CVS, I made some slight proxy changes (though I think they are a bit irrelevant). If it still fails, try this command in status log BEFORE you send/receive the webcam request:

Meine Tochter hat heute eine Logitech Webcam gekauft. Ich hoffe, dass ich am Sonntag Zeit finde, Deine Tips zu auszuprobieren.

Ich verstehe Deutsch ohne Problemen, aber ich kann nicht sprechen/schreiben - ich brauche zuviele Zeit und wenn ich auch technische Wörter benutzen muss, dann muss ich diese Wörter auf Englisch sagen, so denke ich, ich schreibe lieber alles auf Englisch, das ist viel besser

About your daughter's webcam: make sure that, if it's using the pwc driver, you will have the pwc driver by luc saillard (google for it), because the default pwc driver is way too buggy.
