1  Development / Amsn development related issues / Re: Windows Live. Closing. Down. on: February 20, 2013, 05:01:27 am
Seems like this news has been rather lightly addressed in the forums, but it appears that this is the end of the line for aMSN? No shame in that, but if that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to make this explicit, not just in the forums but on the website?

I'm using svn version 12419.

Hi and sorry for not answering earlier.
The plugin itself it really simple, but the problem is that it's *that* simple because it was just including another package (binding) that was using Growl. Since 1.3, Grown dropped support for TCL (and a few more languages) and nobody rewrote the bindings that we were using.
I'm sorry to tell you that Growl plugin won't come back any time soon (unless some dev with some free time want's to send me patches).

Check out the TclGrowl package at (scroll down the page a little bit) and see if that might work. It should be as simply as mapping the commands from the old Growl code to the new version: I don't think the commands are quite a drop-in replacement, but as the new version uses AppleScript and is works fine with the new version of Growl, it should work for aMSN. I will be glad to test a version that incorporates this code, although I don't have time to submit a patch myself.

To follow up:

Clicking on the "1 New Message in InBox" link in the main UI takes me to this page:

rather than my inbox.

Why doesn't aMSN take me right to my inbox, as it used to? Is this a server-side MS issue or a bug I should report at SF?

Also, I'm sorry to harp on this, but cranky RTFM N00B replies aren't helpful, especially when I've already searched the forums...and especially considering that aMSN makes use of some of my code in the Mac version! Really, now.

Not a helpful answer.

There are lots of answers about the "logged in from another location"--I haven't been able to find anything that describes my particular situation, specifically that aMSN doesn't log me into Hotmail anymore! This is a very recent change that appears to coincide with the changes MS is making in Hotmail/, and it doesn't appear to be documented anywhere else here.

Can you reproduce this issue on your system?

I've noticed a recent change in Hotmail and aMSN's interaction since Microsoft rolled out aMSN no longer directly logs me into my Hotmail account but rather takes me to some kind of account landing page for There is no login link at this page. And, when I point my browser to, I can then log into the Hotmail site, but aMSN logs out because "I am logged in from another location." Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is there a workaround for it?

I am using the latest released version of aMSN, and I am on OS X 10.7.
