Go to account > preferences > appearence > and on the coding tab select "Automatic". That should work

What state are you in while trying to send files? Also, what state is the other person?
To what clients are you trying to send the file? (amsn? wlm? others?)

Try clicking on mark all as read button at the right bottom of the page.

Could you click on "Details" when you get the error message and then copy it in pastebin.com ?
Also, try using SVN. Search on forums how to get it.

aMSN doesn't even try to get DP's. Could you try to wait a little bit more? Also, after a few minutes, try to open a chat window to somebody who has a DP. Tell me if you can see it.

It seems like amsn isn't requesting any DP (except 1). Could you go to your profile and delete the DP cache?
The folder its /home/your_user/.amsn/your_account/displaypic/cache
Delete everything in there and start amsn again, and wait 2 or 3 minutes, then copy the log.

You could try posting here the protocol and the status log starting from the startup of amsn +2 or 3 minutes and I could look at them. There could be some kind of error

This error has nothing to do with the first one!
Aanyways, have you tried to fix the first one updating svn to current revision number?
