1  Development / Amsn development related issues / Re: Windows Live. Closing. Down. on: February 10, 2014, 10:53:38 pm
XMPP is not a MSN alternative. XMPP is a protocol. Messenger is a client.

Also, you can trust Messenger the same way to can trust Skype . Both services belong to Microsoft, both are private, both are closed source.

I'm referring to the Microsoft Messenger service which is not a client. Services using Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol generally are a great alternative to the Messenger service.

You are right about the latter. One cannot trust Messenger either but at least anyone could make a software for it, for Skype even that is not possible.

The closedown is approaching so I would like to remind of the free, open source and secure alternative to Messenger: Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol.

Skype truly cannot be trusted as much as Messenger or XMPP especially in the light of last year's global news. Messenger seems to be still working so let's continue to observe.

Switching to SVN fixed it.
4  aMSN Support / General / Character Display Problem (Finnish Translation) on: December 02, 2012, 02:40:05 pm
I am using the Finnish translation of aMSN. My aMSN version is 0.98.9. The problem is that characters Ää (LATIN LETTER A WITH DIAERESIS) and Öö (LATIN LETTER O WITH DIAERESIS) are not displaying correctly in aMSN menus, window titles, pop-up notifications, file transfer messages and such. The characters are, however, displayed correctly in contact lists, names and chat messages.

The problem appeared immediately after I updated from version 0.98.3 to version 0.98.9.

This is an annoying problem. How do I make it go away?

With the new Outlook e-mail service I get disconnected every time I open Outlook in my web browser. It must have something to do with the built-in messenger in Outlook. I don't think one can sign off of it.
My aMSN version is 0.98.9.
6  aMSN Support / Windows / Re: Update to aMSN 0.98.9 but ALREADY UPDATED! on: December 02, 2012, 02:09:04 pm
I installed aMSN 0.98.9 into my new computer with Windows 7. The problem is gone.

Yeah, this happens with my aMSN too. Sometimes when I sign in it notifies about an update and that 0.98.9 version is available but I already have it. It also happens every single time if I press "Check for updates" in the aMSN login screen.
My operating system is Windows XP Professional.

No problem anymore: I reinstalled aMSN '0.98.4', and now everything works again. Where did I get this version 0.99b, I do not know! Strange!

I am having this problem even though I am using aMSN 0.98.4 Huh

When I try to read the offline messages I get, nothing happens.

Edit: Yeah, nevermind. I can read them now. I do not know why I could not before.

Look at the tab at the top of your hotmail window, there will be a 'messenger', click on sign out from there, then amsn should be able to connect.

This happens even if you are signed out from Hotmail's messenger.

After aMSN had some problems with config.xml all my contacts have the same settings as in Blargh76's screenshot (gray checkmarks). I think it is pretty stupid.
14  aMSN Support / Windows / Re: Won't remember password for inbox on: February 09, 2011, 08:44:36 pm
Same thing here. Except it takes me to the Windows Live account overview page about 99-100% of the time.
I am using aMSN 0.98.4, Windows XP and Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13 .
15  aMSN Support / Windows / Re: Issue signing in. on: February 06, 2011, 12:41:20 pm
Edit 2 (2011-02-06): It started doing this again! I cannot sign in with aMSN.

Ok I think this was because I had my Windows Live open on Mozilla Firefox (3.6.13). When I closed the window and then tried to sign in with aMSN again it did not say "..signed in from another location.." any more. But it still did not log in, there was some other message. I did not log off Windows Live, I just closed the window. After a couple of minutes I tried to log in aMSN again and then it succeeded.

Edit: I can get the error doing this:
1. Sign in aMSN
2. Sign in Windows Live on web browser
3. Sign out aMSN
4. Sign in aMSN -> "signed in at another location"

Also, when I log off Windows Live, it cannot do it completely. It says couldn't log off Windows Live Account.
