Title: ColoredNicks plugin
Post by: square87 on March 26, 2007, 12:43:57 pm
Hello.
ColoredNicks allow to see colored nicks in contact list as msn (live) plus does.

To use ColoredNicks you have to use aMSN svn -r8288 or later (0.97 RC 1).

This plugin is on in.solit.us if that server is down wait until it returns up. Thanks.
You can download it from: http://in.solit.us/archives/show/88829 (version 0.3.1) (aMSN -r9080)

Background style doesn't work (for the moment, i hope...).

Media are not parsed.

EDIT: update the link at the version 0.3.1

Hi.

This is version 0.2: http://in.solit.us/archives/download/18052

Why 0.2 and not 0.1.1?
First of all because there is a new system that checks if, for example, [/b] is a code or is a text.
Code in uppercase now works: [/B], , etc...
Psm is parsed too. (thanks to Phil)

Now strange nicks work well, for example:
01234567890
0
1234567890
etc...

Hey :) .. nice plugin
So, I have read quickly the code of plugin , if i can give a suggestion to you:
at 766 line:
Code:

proc getColor { num } {
if { $num < 23 } {
if {[string equal $num "00"]} {return "FFFFFF"}
if {[string equal $num "01"]} {return "000000"}
if {[string equal $num "02"]} {return "00007F"}
if {[string equal $num "03"]} {return "009300"}
if {[string equal $num "04"]} {return "FF0000"}
if {[string equal $num "05"]} {return "7F0000"}
if {[string equal $num "06"]} {return "9C009C"}
if {[string equal $num "07"]} {return "FC7F00"}
if {[string equal $num "08"]} {return "FFFF00"}
if {[string equal $num "09"]} {return "00FC00"}
if {[string equal $num "10"]} {return "009393"}
if {[string equal $num "11"]} {return "00FFFF"}
if {[string equal $num "12"]} {return "2020FC"}
if {[string equal $num "13"]} {return "FF00FF"}
if {[string equal $num "14"]} {return "7F7F7F"}
if {[string equal $num "15"]} {return "D2D2D2"}
if {[string equal $num "16"]} {return "E7E6E4"}
if {[string equal $num "17"]} {return "CFCDD0"}
if {[string equal $num "18"]} {return "FFDEA4"}
if {[string equal $num "19"]} {return "FFAEB9"}
if {[string equal $num "20"]} {return "FFA8FF"}
if {[string equal $num "21"]} {return "B4B4FC"}
if {[string equal $num "22"]} {return "BAFBE5"}
..........

I think that you can have more efficent and clean code creating one array of string with all colours and returning array_colors[num]
I don't know the tcl/tk for that i can't translate my suggestion in the code :P

Title: ColoredNicks plugin
Post by: kakaroto on March 30, 2007, 03:25:26 pm
nice.. here's how it would look like (partial) :
[code]
array set array_colors [list 00 FFFFFF 01 000000 02 00007F 03 009300 .... ]

proc getColor {num } {
  if { [info exists array_colors($num)] } {  return [set array_colors($num)] }
}

That's code stolen from aMSNPlus plugin :p
Anyway, I changed the code in the last release : so feel free to copy the new version...
Phil
P.S. I will soon remove color parsing in nicks from aMSNPlus as this plugin handles things in a better way ;)

@haDoW thanks for the suggestion. I'll do for the next version :)

@LoLKiD:
Do you have the svn version?
If yes, tell me a nick that isn't parsed.
You can color your nick and psm but (at the moment) _you_ cannot see colored nick/psm in topContactList.

Hello Bigbadben :)

So... colorednicks color only contact list. At the moment it isn't possible color your nick because topCL doesn't use canvas yet. The same for chatwindow, for notification, for the invite user list (I mean the window that opens when we want add someone in a conversation). When they'll use canvas I will upgrade my plugin, if there is necessity :)
Anyway you can set color code for your nick than your friends (that have msn (live) plus or better aMSN) will see your nick as colored but you won't, for now.

Have a nice day :)

I'm not coloring the nickname, maybe it's something else that made it act like this?.. status changes for example?...

Hi Bigbadben (btw nice nick)
So...
to set a color you can use [c=#HEXCOLOR]nick[/c]
Hexcolour is an hex number, for a list of colour you can see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors (Hex triplet column)
or you can set [c=NN]nick[/c] where NN is an irc style code. (example: 0 white, 1 black, ... etc...)
nick -> bold nick
nick -> italic style
[a=HEXCOLOR]nick[/a] or [a=IRCCOLOR]nick[/a] -> background
nick -> overstriked nick
nick/u] -> underlined nick

an example: [c=8]in yellow[c=4]in red bolded[/c]in yellow again and still bolded[/c]

then you can set a faded color for the nick and/or background in this way: [c=0]nick[c=4] this show a nick that fade from white to red.

Anyway you can get samples from your contact list and google is your friend ^___^
Good day :)

Hi,  I have ubuntu 7.04 with amsn 0.97svn tcl/tk 8.5.

I update amsn from svn every day.
I'm using ColoredNicks 2.1.1 and from a couple of days I have a problem with this plugin.
When is activated the memory of amsn's process increases much in short time (for example , 5 minutes = 350mb).
I tried to activated only this plugin and also the previous version but I have the same problem

What I can do?

thx

Yes, i see the contact list and everythings is ok, except this plugin.

I tried few minutes ago, with "svn -r #" where # is the svn version.
From 8344 to 8545 is ok.
From 8546 to every version I have the problem with ColoredNicks

EDIT: The file that cause this problem is "guicontactlist.tcl", updated in 8546 where the drawing of contact list is changed much

Anyone have my same problem?

Well,
@lbrfabio : it's not a bug in plugin but maybe a bug in aMSN core....
what I can't understand is where you can get a memory leak...
What is your OS ?
@square87 : when do you think you will release the last version of your plugin ? If I remember well it should fix bugs ;)
By the way, I just added parsing of our own nick/PSM and we display it on the top... So time comes to make a nickname creator !!

Hi,
You can try something :
restart aMSN
open status log and execute here "llength [image names]"
a few time later, when you noticed the memory leak, reexecute it. If it is a huge number compared to the old one, you can put somewhere on the net and give link here, the result of your status log BEFORE and AFTER you executed "image names"
That will give us a preview of some errors in parsing and overall, a list of all your images...
Hum just thought about privacy troubles... If you can post it somewhere, give me the link through PM. If you can't please advise me and I will contact you by mail...

I have just noticed that two of my contacts list use a plugin that cause me the memory leak.

This plugin change their avatar every "X" seconds. Damn.
At this moment I can know what plugin is it but I hope to know it soon.

However, this error :

[18:59:58] Unknown item in parsed nickname: background #D98812

is caused because "ColoredNicks" doesn't know the background's tag of Windows Live Messenger

ColoredNicks is not the principal cause of the memory leak but also the "unknow plugin" of windows live messenger :D

Well, does it happen when ColoredNicks isn't here ? No ? So it's ColoredNicks plugin...
Anyway, the background tag should be dropped by the plugin as there isn't any plan to support it and it leads to status_log flooding....
Well I suspected that your contacts changed of nick often... That shouldn't make aMSN bigger in memory...
By the way, where did you take the ColoredNicks plugin ?
That is strange is you say that it occurs only with new rendering engine for CL... But yesterday I tried to execute 100 times the proc to redraw all the CL and I didn't notice any memleak....
I will try to make some more tests but I don't know....

Phil, he didn't say often change his nick, but rather, often change his avatar, so I guess the DP gets regenerated, but it shouldn't take up any more space, only there's a memleak in the msnp2p that downloads the dp... no ?

I don't know why with ColoredNicks and this "unknow plugin" I have a memory leak.

But, without these contacts that use this "unknow plugin" I have no problems.
By the way "ColoredNicks" works well.

I have no idea what is the problem... :?

Which Tcl/Tk version have you ?
I wonder if the memory leak isn't with 8.5
The unknown plugin only makes things faster but without them, it would have done the same thing....

By the way, I discovered some interesting thing in aMSN
At the begin of your session do:
source debug.tcl
::debug::writeOn
::debug::varsize
::debug::imgstats
::debug::memuse
---- Wait some time to see your memory increased ----
::debug::varsize
::debug::imgstats
::debug::memuse

Now, go to your ~/.amsn directory and look at debug.log file. It shouldn't contain any sensitive info but please make sure....
And send it here ;)

Well,
you didn't wait for the memleak....
If the snapshot you took had been done at the end, I suspect some memory leak in Tk because variables seem good....

how much time did you wait before you executed the commands for that log file ?
I also don't think you did it correctly... because the data in the log file is not consistent (like you did imgstats twice at first, then once at the end, but nothing else)..

i don't know how to explain it really, but do you think it's something to do with a plugin? im on v0.96 and running SuSE linux 10.0. i did try installing ColouredNick but i need  0.97. the only plugins i have loaded are aMSNplus, nudge and remind.

Hello all.
I had problem with connection.
I don't think that background style cause memory leaks. Otherwise I suppose all ColoredNicks user should be affect of memory leaks...

I use background style because I need it to parse nick in a correct way. I can do is delete "background #Colour" before to return nick/psm...

There are many changes in new version and I have to check other things. So i will release a beta version, maybe tomorrow.

Phil: good work about parsing our nick/psm :)

Bye

Hello.
Version: 0.2.2 beta 1
Difference with 0.2.1.1:

fixed: if a fade nick has smiles in the fade part the text are not fade in correct way
added: now also [C=XX] [/C] [/C=XX] are parsed
added: a system to check if a color tag is a text or is really a color (example: [c=8]Hello -> [c=8] is a text no a color]
fixed: when we have [C=X] and X isn't between 0 and 68 and X isn't 0 we have to delete that tag (example: [c=146]Hello[/c] -> Hello)
fixed: when we have a fade part in another fade part (example: [c=9]Hello[c=21]All[/c=9]!!![/c=0])
added: an option to remove colors and styles (Suggestion's Ekz, thanks)
fixed: problem with default online/offline color ( http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3083 ) (thanks to Phil)
fixed: a possible error with the first character of irc style
And many other things...

Trivia:
There are some instructions to check if there is some imprecisions or errors
The code needs to be clean
There is a problem with background tag

@Phil: No, I don't. Anyway they won't be present in stable version.

@Lbrfabio:
Thanks :) your friend are using an evil nick style and he want to fade from black to black :D
Anyway you can say your friend that [c=X] and [/c=X] are not useful with irc style :)
Seem that msn (live) plus ignore [c=X] and [/c...] when there are also irc style.
I'll work on it, in free time.

Then:
Quote
Errors:

[12:20:14] Unknown item in parsed nickname: startfadecolour #2020FC

Hello Op15L
it's strange...
1) try with all plugin disabled
2) tell me the nick that you want to set (disable BBCode when you'll post)
3) open plugin window ( alt p ) and change your nick and see if you get an error

Thanks

EDIT:
But are you really sure that you _load_ the last svn? because i see the old music icon and i see the star for msn-space that it should be disabled, thery are changes of 4 5 days ago... Go in amsn svn dir and start "amsn" because maybe you have two amsn installations... :-S

HI square87 :)

I'm using aMSN 0.97b.

I have installed your ColoredNicks plugin 0.2.1.1, but, I think that it doesn't work.

For example, I see one nick of a contact as:
[a=12][c=0][a=48][c=0]XXXXXXXXX[/c][/a=11][/c][/a=11]

I can't see any colour.

Can you help me?

Hi all :)

"ColoredNicks 0.2.2 beta 2" is out.
To download: http://in.solit.us/archives/show/47131

Differences between 0.2.2 beta1 and 0.2.2 beta2 are:
Fixed:
*Nicks with irc colors and BBcode colors. Example:
**[c=3] Hello. ·$8 Here ·0 I [c=0] am [/c]...[/c]
**[c=8][c=0] I [/c] ·$8 want [c=0]·$4 a [/c] good ·$98 beer[/c]
*Nicks with fade part in a fade part in a not fade part in a fade part etc... :P Example:
**[c=0]abc[c=1]def[c=2]ghi[/c=3]lmn[/c=4]opq[/c=5]
*Error when irc style color number is > 67 && <100 ( example: ·$98 )

Memory improve:
*Removed background related things
*Removed some information that are not useful to draw in CL
*When a part of a nick is: [c=3]abcasdsdadsadas[/c=3] that part of the nick is changed in: [c=3]abcasdsdadsadas[/c] :P

And other things.

P.S. in 73 days last stable version (ColoredNicks 0.2.1.1) has been downloaded 1017 times.

Thanks to all :)

@Fabioamd87:
Sure. Change your status then change your nick :P (I am kidding)

@Fabioamd87 & Fenix-TX:
I don't know if I'll do it, maybe it's better a plugin that changes nick when we change status... but with aMSN you can create a custom state with a custom nick. So you can already set a custom nick like this: [c=4]$nick[/c] for a particular state...
Anyway thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Rosierd and Rowanparker.
We can see colored nicks only in CL and topCL, because they are written in canvas. When "chatwindows, notification windows, etc..." will be written in canvas we will be able to see colored nicks in... :)
So as you can understand that's an aMSN related thing.

When will  "chatwindows, notification windows, etc..." be written in canvas? after aMSN 0.97

Btw it has been already asked (in this thread!) so the next time: search before to ask.

That's what i've done lot of times.. and it seems that the first tags are interpreted correct, however if the nickname has, say: colored text - normal text - colored text .. then only the first sequence appears colored, for the other i see the tags, and it happens with all my contacts. Thanks for all the help, hope this will get solved soon! ^_^

Hi Nitro86 :)
I don't have much info.
You said:
Code:
not everytime, i shut down amsn, reload it and some text that wasn't colored in the previous session now it is.. am i doing something wrong? :shock:

So it sounds like a problem and not a real bug.
Try this:
Remove totally ColoredNicks from plugin directory. Restart aMSN. Go in: Select Plugins window. If you still see ColoredNicks so you have two installations of this plugin. In this case you have to remove the other installation (it should be in: /usr/share/amsn/plugins/ ). Otherwise download the last version of ColoredNicks (you didn't say what version are you using...) from here: http://in.solit.us/archives/show/71381 (restart aMSN)

If the problem is still there... can you upload two screenshots of Contact List one with disabled plugin another with enabled plugin. For privacy reason, if you want you can send me the link in a PM.

Thanks, bye.

Disabling all others plugins. Restart aMSN. When you are logging in press "ALT+P". You'll see Plugins Log Window look if ColoredNicks gives an error, in that case... it should.

[09:32:23] core: Executing ::colorednicks::parsed_nick2
[09:32:23] core: Return 1 from event handler ::colorednicks::parsed_nick2

the word "error" is nowhere to be found, still the behavoiur of the plugin remains the same.Anything else o should look for?

Hi Nitro86.
If something is not parsed you should get an error.
The only thing that is not parsed is Media. That is not a problem of this plugin, but, aMSN doesn't allow that (ATM)...
Then, i know there is a plugin for msn plus users that show text as Media... and as i wrote before... it's not parsed...
So ask your friends if they are using that plugin... :-S

P.S. Are you Italian? :)

Bye

Don't get fooled by the note emoticon in the image I posted.. it's not really media.. it's a live messenger plugin that allows to change psm according to programs running atm. problem is, it displays the psm as media infos. so the result is the same. me and some of my friends use it cause it allows to see your own psm coloured.btw "corridoio house" gave you the right hint, I'm Italian! and if the infos bout the plugin creator are correct, you're Italian too.. ^_^

Just with msn plus (live) you can see colored psm :S, but anyway...

Quote from: "Nitro86"

btw "corridoio house" gave you the right hint, I'm Italian! and if the infos bout the plugin creator are correct, you're Italian too.. ^_^

Yes...

Ok so the problem with this plugin doesn't exist! To parse Media we should wait aMSN (read: someone with spare time).
Amen :D

@echo, read the thread you are posting on, you need to install this plugin for colored nicks to work.

Title: ColoredNicks plugin
Post by: echo on January 03, 2008, 08:07:20 pm
I install it! I said, with windows I can use! And I think the install is same on linux and windows! I copy "colorednick" to aMsn's "plugin" lib, and I turn ON!
But while it works on windows, on linux doesn't do nothing.. :(

But thanks for your answer! :)

ah ok, when I read "works only in windows", I thought you were talking about the official client.
Are you sure you enabled it correctly ("Load plugin")? did you configure it correctly (if necessary) ? You installed the same version of the plugin ? and more importantly, do you use the latest aMSN version on linux too (0.97) ?

Hi,
 I'm using this plugin in Ubuntu, it's working fine. Extract the plugin files to /home/[your username]/.amsn/plugins, load it in aMSN, and it should work :)
What version of aMSN are you using (check in Help -> About)?

Hello Echo.
What ColoredNicks version are you using?

After you enabled it and then restarted aMSN. What do you see in CL? I mean: do you still see "colored/styled tags" in users' nick or they disappear but nothing is "colored/styled"?

Bye

@square87 - ColoredNicks 0.3.1! In CL I still see [c=...]gdsafa[/c]. etc! So nothing special!
@kakaroto - Why it isn't the latest? I download it with synaptic, and there are only one aMsn! Or I need to compile if I download it from soundforge??
Beacuse I tried, but tcl (or something else) no have in my linux! And I don't know where to find it... :(

First of all: be polite!
[c=...]---[/c] tags are supported if they cause problems you'll see a window error. So maybe you are doing something wrong.
Show a screenshot.
Disable all others plugins, then log-in, press ctrl-p you'll see the "Plugins Log" window. Paste plugins log here.

@square87 : I don't see where he was impolite.. unless I missed something...
@echo : if the version says 0.97b then it means it's the beta which is NOT the latest, the latest is 0.97, maybe it's not yet in your distro's repository, you can either compile it yourself or use the generic installer instead. There are lots of guides on how to do that.
If you don't use the latest version, there is no guarantee that the plugin will work. The plugin is only compatible with the 0.97 version, since you have a built svn version, it could be any version and no guarantee that the changes needed to get the plugin to work are in your version.

Humm.. ok square, but I think that it was more like "I see nothing special" == "I don't see any colors".. since colored nicks are 'special' in comparison to plain old nicks... It could also be a language barrier. In any case, I've seen much much worse cases of people being impolite, so.. I think this one is ok :)
+ if he was impolite, he wouldn't have said sorry, hehe.. most of the guys I tell them not to be impolite just tell me to fuck off (then I ban them, hehe :D)
take care.

Feel free to yell at me for this, but seeing as many of us are non-English speakers, and those that are seem to not be American, I propose a spelling correction for the name of this plug in. Can it be corrected to spell the word colour properly with a "u"? Proper English spelling for something like this is one of my big pet peeves. This proposal applies to the whole of aMSN also if there is any "American" spellings.

Post by: kakaroto on January 15, 2008, 04:26:18 am
well, color/colour, it's all the same in the end, it's not like 'color' meant something complete different for british people..
I think it would be nice to merge this plugin with amsnplus... since it's an msn plus feature and it makes sense to have all those features in one place... what do you think ?

Title: ColoredNicks plugin

@echo: Hi. no problem :), my mistake too. My English is not so good too :P

@ H@t: Hi. About the plugins name: i agree with KaKaRoTo. Anyway thanks :)

@ KaKaRoTo:
Hi
I already discussed some months ago about that.
I don't like "amsn plus", every plugins can go in amsn plus just because it's not a real plugin, just a "metaplugin".
Then as you can see the features in aMSN plus are not developed anymore, no users has new idea for it (they just want a "new plugin with a new feature"). No user give patches for aMSN plus. According to me, it's just because an user can fill confused looking that mixed code.
Then i hope one day aMSN Plus will be dropped or at least it will contain some advanced opts that are in Preferences Windows, in that case "aMSN Plus" will be a real plugin. :P
Byez :)

If we look at the download stats, amsn plus is BY FAR the most downloaded plugin.. here's the list for plugins with more than 10K downlods :
Quote
Plugins statistics Name   Count
aMSN Plus!   121370
Music   81462
DualDisplayPicture   37618
BigSmileys   31217
Desktop Integration   28116
Chameleon   18410
WinSkin   15595
msntranslator   14914
GNotify   13886
Colorize   12473
amsnEliza   12339
SendDraw   11612
userstatus   10747
SpellCheck   10511

noone talks about it because it works and all the bugs have been fixed.. when it was buggy it was the main subject for everyone.. so no, it's not an unused plugin... also it's not a 'metaplugin', it's a real plugin with the purpose of providing the features of the 'msn plus' plugin for WLM. And no new ideas for it simply because it already implements most of what msn plus does... and what it doesn't do are in other plugins..
that's why I'm saying that we should keep one plugin 'amsn plus' with ALL the features of msn plus.. for the end user, he just wants to download 'amsn plus' to replicate the 'msn plus' features, he doesn't want to install 10 plugins to get the same features..

Title: ColoredNicks plugin

As a non English speaker I always try to use International English spelling, not US spelling.
I agree with H@t Trick about the spelling which I think should be used in aMSN; although I don't consider that too important.
While I am here, let me say that I will never congratulate enough the developpers for their work.

Well, the translations are bad, the words we use are bad.. most of the developers don't speak english natively and the sentences can always sound 'weird'... but in the end, it's a community project and everyone is free to open the langen file and rephrase anything that he thinks should be said/written differently. And maybe we should have an 'english (us)' and an 'english (uk)' setting.

Title: ColoredNicks plugin
Post by: square87 on January 15, 2008, 09:51:28 pm
Hi KaKaRoTo
I know amsn plus is the most downloaded. Btw a real "download statics" should be $download/$days.

Personally i don't like to have an "amsn plus" just because there is "msn plus". I don't like the idea: if a feature or a plugin is in "msn plus" so that feature/plugin should go in aMSN plus. I think it can demote some people to write code.
What if we add a "plugin" in amsn plus because that feature is in "msn plus" and then for some reason "msn plus" drops that feature? What i want to say is: for me msn plus is not a standard or whatever.
If someday a new plugin for wlm named "msn $name" will be created then i don't want a plugin for amsn named "amsn $name".
I can understand "for the end users" but hey we are not using by default wlm icons, wlm pixmap etc...
aMSN has some features that they are not in msn, but in msn plus. what about that? They should continue to be in amsn code?
Then, as i said, I found more simple to have more plugins that all-in-one plugin.

About features amsn plus lacks of some "features" present in msn plus.

Btw I don't agree. It's just a my opinion.
I think you should open a discussion on it. Because we aren't talking only of ColoredNicks but also for others plugins/features and for future plugins. Of course if others are agree to follow "msn plus" i'll add ColoredNicks code in aMSN plus, even if I am not agree.
Have a nice evening :)

ok I see the point about it meaning the same thing, I just feel spelling is important to the language., though it seems a small debate has been started  (a new thread? lol). Though I think we all agree, it is not a major issue. What about an English (CAN) setting? lol

As for this plugin and other merged into aMSN Plus, I don't know if this is really a big deal, but then again I am not quite the average user.

@echo: just disable the DualDisplayPicture plugin and you'll be fine!

Title: ColoredNicks plugin
Post by: kakaroto on January 16, 2008, 12:41:04 am
@echo : the dualdisplaypicture plugin has been merged into amsn's core so you don't need the plugin to have the feature and actually, enabling the plugin will make it look like you said : 2 DPs for your contact.. delete the plugin and it should fix it
@square : ok, I understand your opinion and respect that, for now, I can't force you to merge it since after all you're the author, but mainly because I think it's a minor issue, if it was something more important, I would have forced you :p
Seriously though, I don't think your arguments have any weight :p  we have 'amsnplus' because 'msn plus!' is the most known and used plugin for WLM ever.. it is also so widely used that it can be considered as if it was a standard since almost everyone uses it. And amsnplus is just a name like any other but it does have the description and name of being an msn plus clone. For the end user, in the end, it should be as simple as possible. And amsnplus stats are real, they keep going up at the same rate, so it's not like it's old stats only (+ we reinitialized stats lately, long after amsnplus became stable and long after the last release of it).
amsnplus is a plugin for amsn, you can do whatever you want with it, if msn plus drops a feature, so what? we are a WLM clone but we still have more features than WLM, if WLM drops a feature, we'll still be at an advantage of having it.. amsnplus is the same, we don't really care what msn plus does, the plugin is not a 'copy', it's just a plugin that has the purpose of allowing users to easily add a plugin to get all the features they want/need with a single click. Colored nicks are important because it is widely used and it screws up your contact list if you don't have the plugin, so it would be important to merge that plugin, but other smaller features can be left out if there's no real need for them for everyone.
