Hello, I'm new to Linux and have tried to get aMSN to work without much success.
I'm have Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, 64 bit version.
The aMSN version installed is 0.98.1

When I try to connect, aMSN shows the connection window, the little bar going left and right, this can take several minutes and then I get a littel window, telling me that there is a connexion error.

First I thought that my box (SFR) is blocking the ports needed, but when I connect my windows laptop, using windows Live (MSN), then I can connect without problems, using the same login and pwd.

I also stopped my linux firewall to be sure that there were no ports blocked : no change.
I have found some ideas on some webpages that this could be a TCL/TK problem ? But i seem to have the latest packages installed and get no error message (other than "connextion error") from  aMSN.
I have also read about a TLS problem under 64 bits ?
Does anybody have any idea how I can check where my problem comes from ?

any ideas would be very much appreciated

Cheers

Oliver

Could you try to get latest svn and disable getting nick&pms on login?
If you're not sure how to get latest svn, search the forums!

Hello Alexandernst,

thanks a lot for your help.

I have managed to update to version 0.99b

Also I need to ask you what is nick and pms ? I have a french version and need to understand to translate and find the correct options
I guess it is the advanced connection option "get nicknames and personal messages from offline contacts" (rather free translation), which was unchecked from installation.

However I'm still having the same problem : aMSN tries to connect for a minute or two, and then gives me that little window with "connection error"

Any more ideas I could try ?

Cheers

Oliver

Problem solved : I exchanged the ADSL modem of my provider (french SFR) agains a independent ADSL modem (Fritz Box of AVM) and suddenly it works !!!

No idea why, as my windows computer on the SFRBox did work with MSN, but as long as it does ;-)

Cheers
