Hello

I'm new to this forum and found out about amsn through internettablettalk forum. I am interested in the application but when i tried it out on my nokia n800 with the os2008 it doesnt accept the deb says incompatible. So I tried the other thing where I need to type up a command in xterminal with the file name but says i aint a super user so someone told me to do sudo gainroot before which i did and same thing i aint a super user, any idea?

Hi Gadget23, we're happy you found aMSN, but please post in the appropriate section.
There is a thread about Maemo support here http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3659
It's listed as an announcement in the Other OSes section. I am sure Kakaroto will move your post there then answer it. The Maemo port looks to be entering active deveopment if I am interpreting that  thread correctly.

As H@T_Trick said, I moved the thread and I'm answering (you're starting to know me a bit too much now :p).
Gadget25, you can try the OS2008 packages from http://kakaroto.homelinux.net/~kakaroto/n810 it says n810, but it's actually os2008 and should work the same with n800 (but the n810 is much better because you have a real keyboard so you don't waste all the space needed by the virtual keyboard everytime you want to chat with someone).
As I said in the other thread, I have no issues installing the packages, while lokidor says it says incompatible... maybe you can give us more info on whether it works for you or not and maybe I'll be able to fix it.
In order to install something with dpkg, you will need to have root access, in order to do it you must install the package 'becomeroot', follow this guide : http://maemo.org/community/wiki/HowTo_EASILY_BecomeRoot
once you installed it, you open the x terminal and type 'sudo gainroot', you will be root now. open the browser to the url above, and save all the deb files to some directory (I created an 'amsn' directory on my memory card), then as root, go to that directory (cd /media/mmc1/amsn for example) and type :
Code:
dpkg -i *.deb
that should be it...
after that, it should work.

Not as easy...I've tried what you said, even made a amsn directory under my memory card and followed extly ut for some reason it doesnt find cd/media/mmc1/amsn...Only if this could be easy

Gadget25: there's a space after 'cd', it can also be 'cd /media/mmc2/amsn' depends on which SD slot you put it...
you could also try opening the .deb files from your file manager, maybe that will work.

lol, I have not had a chance to learn tcl/tk so I figure I can help out a little bit here and there on here. Better me than a dev who's always getting frustrated telling people to search the forums all the time and such, better you get some free time in addition to you're real life and aMSN development! Keep up the amazing work! (oh and slightly off topic -- sorry --, I got my N95-3 and once I learn more about it I will see what is involved in getting aMSN on it, I'll be posting in that post soon I hope).
