I decided to ask here since it (probably) doesn't have to do with amsn, but someone might know.
There's a specific contact on my list who sometimes keeps changing between "Busy" and "Online". If it starts, it can happen to up to 10 times in 2-3 seconds. I've disabled notify windows for him, but the contact monitor plugin (not being contact-specific) fills our chats with status change messages.
I've told him about it and he has no idea what could be causing the issue (he's not sad enough to be doing it manually :p). Does anyone know what could be causing it?

no freaking idea.. maybe he's using some plugin or some kind of shit on his pc... ask him to maybe uninstall WLM and then reinstall it, and use an anti-adware program to make sure there's no adware that screws up WLM...
other than that, I have no idea...

IIRC, MSN6.2 (the last M$N that I actually used) would always set to "Busy" when something was full-screen... maybe this could give you a hint?

Yeah, I've seen something similar happen with one of my contacts, who was using Windows Live Messenger (it doesn't happen when he uses aMSN on Ubuntu). I have no clue what was causing it, he wasn't doing it manually either (and, he's smart enough to now have any adware/spyware on his PC Tongue)

Not sure if these are related, but a few other oddities I've encountered:
 - I had a conversation open with someone and stopped talking to them... "[name] joins conversation" messages were coming up every single minute. This didn't seem to happen for anyone else (I get the normal "has been closed due to inactivity" message), just this one person. Some sort of keepalive thing maybe? I've no clue.
 - Another person I was chatting to, "[name] leaves conversation" kept coming up right after they messaged me, and I'm sure they were not closing the chat window or anything
Any idea what could cause those issues? Tongue

1 - happens sometimes, for some weird reason WLM gets in a state where it waits for something from us (an ACK to a file transfer cancelation/completion or something like that). So whenever the SB gets closed, it reopens it in order to wait to receive its message.. but we already sent it, it just didn't receive it for some weird reason..
2 - never seen that, maybe he uses trillian or some other clone that has a 'send message and close' feature to imitate ICQ chat... I know trillian did that.

Well, I took advantage of the fact that amsn is written in a scripting language and edit the plugin's file so that it won't display status changes specifically for him :p

Figured it out, this is exactly what's happening. The same thing happens with Windows Live Messenger Smiley
